Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Events held under the aegis of the Russian-Arab Business Council are examples of implementation of Russia-GCC MOU November 1, 2011

Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Events held under the aegis of the Russian-Arab Business Council are examples of implementation of Russia-GCC MOU

On the 1st of November 2011 Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, participated in the first ministerial session of the Russia-GCC Strategic Dialogue in Abu Dhabi. Along with the Russian Minister the session was chaired by Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates and the head of the current session of the ministerial council of GCC, with the participation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of GCC member states (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman) and GCC Secretary General Abdullatif Bin Rashid Al-Zayani.

In the course of the meeting with the heads of foreign ministries of the Gulf States, the perspectives of the further development of the cooperation between Russia and GCC were discussed and opinions on the actual local and international problems were exchanged.

At the end of the meeting the Memorandum of Principles and Directions of Russia-GCC Strategic Dialogue was signed. The decision was taken to draw up a conjoint plan of activities for 2013-2015 years before the following meeting which will be held in Moscow in 2012. According to the Memorandum, the parties agreed to contribute to the creation of a favorable climate for business relationship in different spheres, such as trade, industry, transport, agriculture, education etc.

In so far, the events arranged by the Russian-Arab Business Council not only correspond to the direction of the cooperation between Russia and GCC, but they are real examples of implementation of MOU.

The Russian-Arab Business Council has conducted and will conduct and schedule all of its activities and events with the support of the main ministries and agencies responsible for foreign economy such as the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Justice and, first of all, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Russian organizations in Arab countries and Embassies of Arab countries in Moscow.
